Are you dreaming of sunnier, Mediterranean climes with this slightly, milder weather? I certainly am, but there is a far more local way of getting your fill of Med flavours at the Stag’s Head in Swalcliffe – the best Greek feast in the Cotswolds! The Stag‘s Head is owned by the awesomely-Greek Stamatis Trivizas, his lovely English wife Faith and their two sons. A beautiful English pub by day, on the last Saturday of every month the pub turns into a Greek taverna, transporting guests back to a land of olives and feta cheese!
For an amazing price (£25 per head) you can enjoy a full SEVEN, hearty courses of traditional Greek grub. My god, I couldn’t eat for a week! If there is but one criticism, there was just TOO MUCH FOOD! Here I’ve got each course to get your taste buds on fire and your lips licking…
Round 1: Psomia (selection of bread), Hummous, Tzatziki, Tyrocayteri – Feta cheese, roast peppers and fresh chilli dip (Do not fill up on bread, I repeat – DO NOT FILL UP ON BREAD. You have MANY more courses to come)
Round 2: Spanakotyropites – spinach and feta cheese pies, Fried Halloumi with rocket salad, Prasotyroita – leek and feta cheese pies
Round 3: Horiatike – Greek salad, Pastitsio – Marconi pie, Patates sto fourno – herby roast potatoes
Round 4: Melitzanes imam bayildi – aubergines with tomato topping
Round 5: Arnisia paithakia – marinated lamb chops
Round 6: Fasolia gigantes – giant beans with tomato sauce, Spetsofai – Greek style sausages with pepper casserole and Sarthele – sardines
Round 7: Epidorpia – selection of greek desserts
Epilogue: Coffee, Tea & Greek delight (loukoumia).
There was even Greek dancing!
